ANTALYA ANTİK KENTLER REHBERİ
We were commissioned by Print Reklam to prepare this guidebook in the April of 2001. Knowing that we are living in a very dynamic country we felt obliged to visit every single site we have to mention. It was necessary to control the validity of the actual information. Accordingly we were not shocked to notice that some of the village's names have been changed, and there were newly built routes to otherwise inaccessible places. This also gave us the possibility to photograph all these sites.
We tried to make something handy, smiling and full of information. In all the popular guidebooks we have seen till today there was a missing ingredient; althought some of them was fairly well written. As readers we were not able to see and feel the people who actually built these cities. How these people were living? How they did construct these monumental buildings? What was the use of the theaters or the baths? Who was Alexander the Great? Without this knowledge the cities were losing most of their appeal. Not common for these types of guidebooks we included such informative chapters as well.
During the design phase our friends from Print Reklam spent hours and apart our 150 or so photographs used in the book some of the best photographers of this country contributed with their own work too.

ayında Print Reklam'dan aldığımız bir teklif üzerine Antalya ve çevresindeki
Antik kentleri tanıtan bir kitap hazırlamaya başladık. Türkiye son derece
dinamik bir ülke, köy isimleri değişiyor, yeni yollar açılıyor, pek çok
antik yörede arkeolojik çalışmalar devam ediyor. Dolayısıyla en yeni olduğu
düşünülen kitapta bile bilgilerin bir bölümü eskimiş ya da tamamen hatalı
hale gelebiliyor. Kitaba alacağımız tüm kentleri bizzat gezdik ve fotoğrafladık.
Çok yorucu ama oldukça keyifli bir çalışmaydı. Bu arada Şengül bu tip
küçük rehber kitaplarda pek görülmeyen bir yaklaşım önerdi. Sadece antik
kentler hakkında bilgi vermek yetersizdi, çünkü orada yaşayan insanların
nasıl bir yaşam sürdürdükleri hakkında hiçbir bilginiz yoksa gördükleriniz
bazen hiçbir anlam ifade etmeyebiliyordu. Kitabın içine antik yaşam rehberi
de eklendi. Örneğin en çok gözümüze çarpan tiyatrolarda ne tür gösteriler
yapılıyordu? Tapınaklar nasıl yerlerdi? Bütün bölgeyi etkileyen Büyük
İskender kimdi? Ayrıca kitabın sonuna en çok kullanılan antik terimler
sözlüğü ve daha derin bilgi almak isteyenler için kapsamlı bir kaynakça
koyduk.
Kitabın tasarım aşamasında çok sayıda insanın emeği geçti ve Antalya yöresi
için hazırlanmış rehber kitaplar arasında en sevimli, en kullanışlı ve
en kapsamlısını ortaya çıkarttığımıza inanıyoruz.
